The David Lawrence Center Juvenile Assessment Services (JAS) provides mental health and substance abuse evaluation and assessment services at no cost for youth ages 7-17 that have been court involved through civil citation, Department of Juvenile Justice, diversion or truancy court. Children may be referred by parents, schools, law enforcement or other parties. Children who can benefit from these services may be truant, unmanageable, possible substance abusers, or at-risk for other reasons.
The assessment includes review of the youths developmental, social, behavior, physical health, family and mental health history. Because drug and alcohol abuse are serious issues with todays youth, assessments are designed to determine if youth have a drug or alcohol problem. Through the assessment process, the family will be given a comprehensive referral for services that may include education for the youth and family, individual counseling, group therapy, and/or other programs available in Collier County.
