The David Lawrence Center was established in 1968 through the vision, hard work and determination of its founder Polly Keller. The Center, then known as the Collier County Mental Health Clinic, was the first mental health and substance abuse clinic in Collier County. After receiving a federal grant to help subsidize substance abuse treatment, the Clinic opened its doors on October 10, 1969, with 3 staff members in a donated store front on the corner of Tamiami Trail North and Creech Road in Naples.
