David C. Schimmel
Chief Executive Officer

David C. Schimmel is the Chief Executive Officer of David Lawrence Center. He came to Collier County in 1984 as the Assistant Director of David Lawrence Center before being appointed to Chief Executive Officer in 1989. He has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, is certified as a Mental Health Administrator and is licensed as a Mental Health Counselor. He has been working in the field of community mental health for more than 35 years.

As CEO, Dave provides leadership and management expertise to the staff at the direction and discretion of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors of David Lawrence Center sets the policy and the course for the Center each year and then monitors its progress.

Throughout his career, Dave has taken an active leadership role in local, national and statewide organizations to ensure the affordability and availability of mental health and substance abuse services. He is the current Past President for Southwest Florida Behavioral Healthcare Network. He served as the Chairman for Action for Behavioral Health, is a current board member, past Secretary and past Chairman for Florida Council for Community Mental Health, is the past President of Associates in Behavioral Healthcare and is the past Chairman of the Board for Osprey Healthcare.

Dave, a strong community advocate, has served locally on the Board of Directors of the Greater Naples Area Chamber of Commerce, Edison College Advisory Board, is a graduate of Leadership Collier, and is past President of Naples North Rotary.

Dave is a member of the Association of Mental Health Administrators, National Council for Mental Health and Mental Health Corporations of America.

Dave has been recognized nationally for his work in the mental health field having received the 2006 Piepenbrink Award for Excellence in Behavioral Healthcare Management, the Fellow Award for unique and significant contributions to the Florida Council for Community Mental Health and its mission in 2005, and the Special Contributions Award from the Florida Council for Community Mental Health in 1992.



Bonnie Fredeen
Chief Operating Officer

Bonnie Fredeen currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for David Lawrence Center. She is responsible for the overall management of administrative and clinical operations to include the following departments: Acute Care Services, Medical Services, Community Services, Bridges Children’s Residential Program, Access and Urgent Care, Substance Abuse Services, Human Resources, Quality Assurance & Improvement, Clinical Records and Information Services.

Prior to joining the Center in 1992, she served as Vice President of Operations and Human Resources Manager for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.

Bonnie earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration and her Associates Degree in Mathematics and Physics. She is a Certified Senior Professional in Human Resource Management. In addition, Bonnie is an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management. In 2011, Bonnie was named the Statewide Administrator of the Year by the Florida Council for Community Mental Health.



Scott Geltemeyer
Chief Financial Officer

Scott Geltemeyer is the Chief Financial Officer for David Lawrence Center. He is responsible for the supervision and management of Accounting, Payroll, Facilities Management and Food Services. He joined the Center in 1988 as the Accounting Manager and was then promoted to Controller before holding his current position.

Scott is a Certified Public Account (CPA). He earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration and Comprehensive Public Accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He also successfully completed several advanced accounting courses from the University of Central Florida.

He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Day Optimist Club and is an active member of the Florida Institute of Certified Financial Planners.



Stephen Wheeler
Chief Development Officer

Stephen Wheeler is the David Lawrence Center Chief Development Officer. In this capacity, he is responsible for sustaining the infrastructure necessary to expand philanthropic support for the advancement of the Center’s mission, operations and growth including the management of volunteer recruitment, donor development and the David Lawrence Foundation’s Encore Resale Shop.

Wheeler has more than 30 years of management experience in the local community with the last 20 spent in development for the not-for-profit sector. For the last eight years, he served as the Senior Director of Development for Lee Memorial Health System Foundation where he was responsible for major and planned gifts in the Collier County market in support of the capital campaign to build the new Children’s Hospital. Prior to that, he held the following not-for-profit leadership positions: founding Executive Director of Cancer Alliance of Naples, Inc., Executive Director of the Collier County and Marco Island offices of American Cancer Society, and Vice President of Business and Member Services and Director of Tourism for the Naples Area Chamber of Commerce. His for-profit business experience spans 20 years in management positions in the hospitality industry.

Wheeler graduated with honors with his bachelor's of science degree in business management from Keystone College in Pennsylvania and is a certified hotel administrator.

His extensive community involvement includes having previously served on the Board of Directors for the David Lawrence Center, YMCA, Collier County Film Commission and served as Vice President of the Board for the Naples Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Collier County Visitor Development Council and President of the Collier County Hotel and Motel Association. He also served as a member of the Economic Development Council Business Coalition and founding member of the Naples Visitors Bureau. He is a graduate of the inaugural class of 1989 of the Leadership Collier Program and served as Class Chair in 1993.
