David Lawrence Center offers prevention education programs that focus on a variety of mental health and substance abuse topics. Children’s prevention programs that cover substance abuse topics are targeted towards children, adolescents and parents. These programs provide alternatives, information dissemination and problem identification on substance abuse, suicide, conflict resolution, anger management, behavioral problems and depression.

To be referred into a David Lawrence Center prevention program, youth must have an initial assessment which is offered free of charge at Juvenile Assessment Services. These services require pre-registration and are offered in Naples and on a limited basis in Immokalee.

Making Positive Choices
Making Positive Choices group is a 12 session psycho-educational series for adolescents who are experiencing difficulties making choices that support a healthy lifestyle. Whether they’re having problems with their peers, disregarding rules or experimenting with substance use, this group can help guide adolescents toward making the right decisions.

Parenting for Problematic Teen Behaviors
Parenting for Problematic Teen Behaviors is a six week prevention course that teaches parents how to deal with adolescents who present at-risk behaviors including truancy, drug abuse, running away, gang involvement and sex.

Parenting for Problematic Teen Behaviors includes education on:
  • Preventing and Intervening in the Child's Negative Choices
  • Addressing Problematic Behavior
  • Drug Use, Violence and Sexuality
  • Changing Destructive Behavior
  • Rebuilding Family Relationships
